The Doughboys

The name "Doughboys" was created because the soldiers buttons were really big, they looked like donuts. At this time, men were asked to join the army. Others signed up to protect and serve their country, but some were drafted. Many veterans believed that war wasn't the answer, that all the violence wasn't going to solve anything. People thought that when war happened, it was hell on earth, in other words, soldiers were dying, people were starving, etc. The soldiers were taught how to march and make trenches to use it as shelter and protect themselves during war.

  1. This is a great little summary of the doughboys. I think it would be a good idea to add some more details though. Luckily I don't think this will be a huge part of the final test but it should not be overlooked. I would be good to know the general information about the American soldier's role in the war.

  2. I agree with Cooper that this was a good short summary but you should definitely not overlook this section. It's crazy to think that young men were drafted to be in that army back then. Men now a days voluntarily join the army because maybe it's something that they've always wanted to do. War back then was really brutal which is why many casualties occurred especially to inexperienced young men.
