God In America Part 4
During this era of American history, religion served as an engine for democratic reform as it became the fuel for a radical fire. As conflict between science and religion became more significant people began furthering their critical questioning of religion and more specifically the bible. After the scopes trial people began to see that the bible was not a flawless document or a perfect written reference to the word of god. After this trial people began to question the word of the bible and they started looking for logical and proof backed justifications of what happened in the world around them. These same people began to turn to science for some of their answers as it contradicted the bible and gave logical and data proved justifications. People like Briggs helped begin to start questioning if it were necessary to believe everything said in the bible. He challenged the bible and questioned its ideals and statements. As people questioned religion they also began to challenge the legal system and the government. People began to challenge the judiciary system after the scopes religious related trail.
