School Stress Muckraking Project

I just believe it's difficult to balance everything in life. In times like right now, the question is whether you want to get enough sleep or you want to get an A on the test. During Christmas, it probably won't be much of a break for us juniors as we have to diligently study for either the SAT or ACT. Yes I'm sure we'd love to go on these extensive vacations but our lives are ahead of us, and grades really matter now, they're going to essentially shape our future. It's sad that the difference between a 3.8 and a 4.0 GPA is so big and it makes so much of a difference to have the latter. Everyone's talking about what colleges they're planning to apply to and how they always need to be doing more in order to enhance their resume. It's difficult because this is our future, and we can't slack off even for a moment because that might be the difference from getting into a top college and a mediocre one.

  1. I agree with what you're saying, and think their is a lot student have to balance in their life, and especially right now, towards the end of the semester. I also believe that teacher (in some cases) are sometimes worse than students if not on par with the students in the view of they also keep all the big projects till the last days and it stresses us kids out and it makes it a bigger work load and all the harder.

  2. I agree that it is very difficult to balance everything in our lives and that school is very stressful. However I think it is important to remember that if you end up getting into a mediocre college it isn't the end of the world. Of course getting into a good college is much better than getting into a mediocre one, but I've learned from my counselor and from talking with adults that if you don't get into a great college there is still hope, since a lot of jobs look for your skills and what you can bring to the job more than what college you went to. All in all, although grades and ACT/SAT are important, you should make sure not to lose sight of the fact that the purpose of school is to prepare you for the future, so you should try to focus on getting the most out of your high school experience.

  3. Honestly I completely agree and find it devastating that such a small percentage can be the deciding factor in a person entire life. That small small number is the difference between the way your life turns out, which is seriously scary! And no one knows the story behind those grades either, no one knows if you pulled an all nighter, or if you worked your ass off to complete the assignment only to get a bad score. It is detrimental to someone's confidence and emotional stress.

  4. I agree its so hard. As the group who talked about teen stress explained, schools should really work on addressing this issue, especially in the Bay Area where the stress is so high. I think we can also work to control this ourselves as students by trying to see the positive aspects of the situation.
