The 1920's
Essentially, we learned about the lifestyle in the 1920's and how things were rapidly starting to change. We learned that the skyscrapers in New York represented the aspirations and ascendancy of Americans. Harlem starting becoming popular because of the music that they produced, very soulful and live, Americans were amazed with it all. Electricity started becoming big, so no more candle, no more fires to heat up food, everything started to become electric. The car made transportation MUCH easier. With all of these new advances people wanted all the new things, but wanted to stay with the same life they had before. Which couldn't be possible due to all the advances that were happening. They wanted the benefits of the future but the comfort of the past. The KKK became popular around this time, because it was a way for the American people to vent their anger on others, so of course they chose new immigrants coming in. Charles Lindbergh became an American Hero in the 1920's because he flew across the Atlantic Ocean solo, and it showed how much courage America had at the time so it was an amazing achievement.

Patrick, this post is extremely informative and well structured. I really like how much detail you used. It covers a majority of the information from the class period and it does so effectively.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very informative and accurate post, but it is important to clarify that the reason people joined the KKK wasn't mainly to vent anger on others, but out of fear of the threat that economic, technological, and social change posed to the old idea of American life, and they saw KKK membership as a way to protect the comfort of the past.
ReplyDeleteGood information. Covered a ton of different points and really summed up the main points of the 1920's. I think this is really good review for the final, because you can only go over so much material to study, and I think this is will be really helpful for saving time while studying.
ReplyDeleteVery well done summary of the 1920's. This is good coverage of the main points from the documentary we watched. A lot of changes happened in the 1920's and the world really began to modernize more rapidly. It seemed like an awesome time to be living in America, well done Patrick.
