Reflection on the Semester
As I reflect on this semester I have come to realize that I appreciate U.S. history because it is interesting to see what historical events have caused some of the laws and methods of today's society. I did not think that I would be interested in U.S. history at the start of the year because European history was more my thing as I thoroughly enjoyed EHAP. However I was wrong and I have found that I enjoy the documentaries that we have watched about U.S. history. My favorite unit was the conspiracy theories unit because I though it was both a funny and educational way to start off the year. I also enjoyed the WWI unit and Civil War unit because I find war fascinating. I enjoy figuring out how the conflict was started to how it was ended and everything in between. I am looking forward to the second semester as I hope to learn more about the U.S.'s involvement in the Cold War and WWII. Since I learned all about the European nation's perspective of the two conflicts, I think it will be interesting to delve deeper into the perspective of the U.S.

I think that it is really great when you go into something thinking that you will not like it, but then you start to thoroughly enjoy every aspect of it! I think that the key to these types of situations is being able to keep an open mind and being willing to try new things that might make you a little uncomfortable at first.
ReplyDeleteAlso I think that with that point it is a good thing for teachers to want to achieve this with all of their students, so that the children feel compelled to go to class to learn. It is good that the way that the conspirators acted gained your attention and interest, this makes it so much easier to come to class, when you want to learn it is so much less stressful.

ReplyDeletePreviously not being a fan of history, I too went into the class not looking forward to the class. To my pleasant surprise, the class was fun and was enjoyable to be in every day of the week.
ReplyDeleteI agree with what you are saying here, Cooper. I too am fascinated with learning about wars, and this class has given us much more interesting and detailed information that many history classes I have taken. I too am excited to see the American side of WWII and the Cold War, and am looking forward to a second semester of this class.
