Questions I Ponder over about Women in Stem
Women, for a long time, were expected to simply sit at home, with no education, and take care of the children while attending to her husband's every desire. Now we live in such a prosperous place in which we have women astronauts, top scientists, engineers, and CEOs, and excelling at their jobs. Why would we want to compromise a movement of progress that has been developing for years, facing incredible hardship every step of the way? With women only occupying 24% of the overall jobs involving STEM, we are disabling and degrading a movement that worked so hard to achieve at least a 50 percentile. This number is an insult to all those women who put, not only their blood, sweat, and tears, to this effort but also the women who continually give their lives to this cause.

I am very glad that women and men are pushing closer to being equal. We have come a long way as a society but we still have a lot more to improve upon.
ReplyDeleteLet us never forget the far lengths women have come. Some nations have women in the government, and by that I mean that they're the President such as Park Geun-Hye. She is currently the President of South Korea. That would be absurd to hear let's say a hundred years ago or so. Even though the changes have been extremely great, I believe and agree with your view that women can still come closer and be equal to men.
ReplyDeleteI agree Emily this is a real problem. One especially important in the Bay Area in particular because the stem field is a large percentage of the businesses here.
