Muckraking Projects

I think that so far we have seen great projects form every group, showing different issues in our area that aren't often talked about. For instance, I never realized preschools were so competitive, and roughly as much if not more than many of the prestigious private high schools in our area. It was very interesting to see that some of these preschools would be like paying double the taxes people normally pay just to send their child to a care center. Zach, Patrick, and Luca also had a great project about public schools, and why the system for these public schools in our area also seems very flawed. They also had some great images that showed how the wealth was distributed in the bay area, and just how different somewhere like East Palo Alto is compared to Los Altos, even though they are only a 15 minute drive apart. These projects make me feel very grateful that I was able to go to preschool, and that we have so many resources and experienced teachers at Los Altos.

  1. Im glad we chose the topic we decided to look in depth into. This project made me aware of the trash problem in the community. Pleasure working with you Jack!

  2. Your summaries of each project works well to compliment them in their own unique way.

  3. Do you think that preschool education and childcare should be apart of the public school system? Or that we should try to even out all the public schools so that the education would be the same? I think that preschools should be part of the public school system, but I do not now how happy people would be about paying more taxes. As for the schools, I think that would make people a lot more unhappy, especially if there children were getting a better education before. That problem would need to be fixed slowly to ensure minimal disruption of the people.
