Muckraking Projects seen in Class

Yesterday, after watching my classmates speak about their muckraking projects and the issues they chose, I learned a lot. Specifically, the presentation I found very interesting was the presentation about teen stress and suicide. I really liked this presentation because I liked the interviews they had because they were from people who have very firsthand and traumatic experiences with suicide, whether it be from a child or a relative or a friend. I also liked many of the quotes they had on their website, specifically "Suicide doesn't relieve your pain, it gives it to someone else". That quote really stuck with me after class.

  1. This quote also stuck around with me! It really made you think about what it means. What i thought it meant was that once you take your life or once someone else takes their own life, others will be extremely sad about it even if you don't think so, so really you just passed on your depression onto others, and even if you don't think so, theirs always someone that cares about you, no matter who you are. So that's why this quote was a really thought provoking to me.

  2. I agree with both of you, that quote was very impacting, I never thought about it like that. I also learned something that surprised me so much and made me think, the yearly suicide rate. To be honest, I've never really thought about this too much, but now that i'm taking the time to think about it, it is really crazy.

  3. Honestly the teen suicide project was really gut wrenching for me too, especially because of that quote. I mean this is a very important and relevant issue to me and I feel so upset when ever anyone is having issues with it. Props to the group who covered it thought, very professional approach.

  4. I agree with you, the presentation on teen stress was really interesting and it hit home with a lot of people. That quote has a really deep significance to it and can be interpreted many ways. My interpretation is exactly like Patrick's. I think that once you take your life away, you don't realize how many people your death will affect. You are just simply giving pain to others who cared about you and now they have to live their life without you in it. Just like Gerardo said, I never really took the time to think about it but now that I do, it's crazy to think about the amount of teenagers that go to that extreme measure.

  5. I appreciate Kaylee Chris and Vance choosing the topic of suicide, as it is very difficult to talk about. They had several interviews from people who all had different perspectives on the topic, which I thought really helped their project. After reading all of the interviews, it was very interesting to see how different some of the answers they received were.
