Muckraking Project- Overview
For the past week, we have been working on the final project for this semester. We had to find a local issue, interview experts about it and come up with a solution. My group and I decided do talk about the education system for toddlers (preschools). This issue affects thousands of parents in the bay area because they are not able to afford child care therefore they are not able to work, or have any independence. We decided to do a website with different categories explaining what parents could do, the solutions, and comparing preschools and their prices. We were all very chocked to learn that a toddler's education is more expensive than some private high schools such as St Francis or Mitty High School. We hope our project will turn out great especially because getting interviews was a little hard!

I really enjoyed your project! I agree that if parents want to send their child to preschool but cannot afford it, then it is a big problem. Especially since th purpose of preschool is to develop social skills, it will take away valuable opportunities for a child to develop them, or it will cost a parent way more than they can afford to pay to send them to a preschool.
ReplyDeleteYour project was really interesting and eye-opening. I never knew that preschools cost that much money now a days. It's crazy to think about little kids from the age of 2-3 not getting fed and spending their whole day at preschool. I agree that it was tough getting interviews because my group emailed some people and some didn't even email back which was a bit frustrating.
