The League of Nations is basically supposed to prevent war from ever happening again, and unify all major nations while doing so. However, many aspects of the League bring into existence secondary negative effects. Such an effect would be having to comply with every nation in order for them to accept joining. An example of this would be Britain and France asking for severe punishment for Germany (take some land away, make them pay for the damages they caused, etc). Obviously, the League has to accept these terms in a sense or else two major powers, Britain and France, will deny joining. Another example of compliance is the demanding of German colonies in China from the Japanese. If you want someone to join you, you better make sure they like you. If not, forget it fam. To this extent, the League is proving to be troublesome for Germany. If such negative actions are taken on Germany, for all we know, some dude called Adolf Hitler will get rejected from Art School and decide that exterminating a human race and taking over Poland is the best thing Germany can do, not that'll happen. Totally won't. Another example, one that is shown in cartoons a lot, is that the League of Nations isn't much of a solution, but more of a roadblock for war. In the attempt to make everyone happy, you'll eventually end up making someone mad. Not only that but, having one big power be the dominant one on the world will eventually also end up making someone else mad (not Germany, nope).
Now here's a philosophical part, and this is just from what I can tell, true peace can never be reached. It's simply a fault of humans. None of us are perfect, so therefore, nothing we ever do will truly be perfect. Someone makes a law that will supposedly fix an issue. What happens? Someone breaks that law. Nothing is ever perfect, only better, so while the League of Nation's has its faults and its benefits, something will eventually happen that is technically better or at least should be better. Looking at you, United Nations.
I like how you used examples to support your points and included a philosophical part. I agree that true peace can never be achieve. Good job!
ReplyDeleteAlthough world peace can never be achieved, do you believe that people are making an effort to create it?
