The 1920s

Today in class we watched a documentary on the 1920s that showed us every major event and change that occurred in the 1920s.

First, we went over the prohibition acts, which removed the consumption and sale of alcohol in the US. Despite this, people still drank alcohol and as a result, crime increased in cities as gangs battled for territories to sell alcohol.

Next, we saw how the growth of the wealthy immigrating into the major cities changed the atmosphere of cities like New York, and how jazz revolutionized the people as well. Jazz also was a precursor to the equal rights movements that took place later on in the 1950s and 1960s

After this, we saw how advances in technology and society changed the lives of people, changing from a more conservative view of people to a somewhat more open take on the world. Ideas like credit also changed the way people bought goods, increasing the number of sold goods in America and creating a major business.

  1. I like how this made all that happened through the 1920's really condensed down to its main events. For those who might have missed the video or were distracted for some reason this would really help them in my opinion since its both rich in what happened and at the sane time short enough for someone to read quickly.

  2. I think it's interesting to see how people just went with whatever was going on at the time. When Jazz music became big people decided to go out and listen and pay money even though they might not be financially stable they didn't want to be left out of the movement.

  3. I find it interesting how people still would drink even during the prohibition. The governments plan back fired, increasing the crime in the U.S. It would have also been nice to talk about the stock market crash at the end of the post and how the bubbling wealth in the 1920s ended.
