In class today we were introduced to the Scopes Stimulation. The class in this stimulation is broken into three groups jury members, legal teams, and witnesses. The jury is required to taking notes, keep score and turn in a paragraph after the simulation on why they voted the way they voted citing at least three specific arguments the legal teams made. The legal teams job is to convince the jury that your position is correct. They prepare witnesses, make arguments, avoid running foul of the judge. They will be evaluated for a grade on how well they perform against the other team. The witnesses prepare themselves as the legal teams direct you. They will be evaluated on how well they know your specific roles. The argument is whether or not intelligent design, a form of creationism, should be taught in schools. Patrick, Zack, Jack, and Luca are arguing against including intelligent design while Sana, Chiara, CJ, Leila, and Tara are arguing for including it in curriculum. Both groups, the witnesses, and jurors have until Monday to prepare for the simulation.
This is a really great post. I really like how you gave a description about the simulation and then went further in depth on what you are doing in the simulation.
ReplyDeleteTara, I like how you included a lot of detail about the roles of each group. This helped clarify exactly what they will be doing and how they will be evaluated.
ReplyDeleteTara, I liked how anyone who was absent on the day Mr. Stewart explained the simulation could just seen this post and know exactly what we were required to do. You went super in depth about everything that each group had to do which made it even more clearer. You most definitely clarified exactly what we were arguing about because at first I was really confused. Good job overall!
ReplyDeleteI really like the way that you give everyone a brief overview of the trial, but you also give specific evidence about the roles of certain people and what was expected of us. You also did a really good job in the trial, you were a very calm and composed legal team.
