The Persian Gulf War
The Persian Gulf War started in the 1990s when Saudi Arabia was invaded by the Iraqi military. Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein thought that Saudi Arabia was siphoning oil from them, and invaded their territory because of this. The Unites States moved troops into Saudi Arabia because of this invasion. When the iraqi troops did not leave, the US military had to use force, which started the Persian Gulf War. Most of the public did not know much about what was going on in this was because the military censored most of it. So the public only knew what the government wanted them to know.

I really like this because it's not something we talked about in class! I just wish you had gone a little bit more in depth but it's a good post!
ReplyDeleteGreat post of the Gulf War. In class I have learned that Saddam Hussein invaded their puppet state, Kuwait, for all sorts of reasons. I like that you pointed out something that was outside of the documentaries in class because I didn't know the Iraqi forces also invaded Saudi Arabia, which does explain their involvement in the Gulf War. I wish you had but more information in the end of the post like, how long did the war last? or Why was this war significant? ....something like that.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Chiara-- I like that you took the time to do extra research and integrate it with what we learned in class. It would have also been interesting if you included something about the results of the war.
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good summary of the Persian-golf war, especially for those who do not know many details surrounding it. Yet what was your personal opinion on it? Did you agree with the reasons and morals that were used as excuses to get into this war? Also it seems to run a common theme with a lot of the material that we have covered in class, such as the government lying to its public about these very important war related topics simply because they knew and feared the drastic loss of public support that would occur.
