Overview of the 1990's

The 1990's was an era of change and was characterized by a change in culture and alternative media. New movements such as the grunge, rave and hiphop music were rising through the country as america kept opening up to new cultures. In the first two year of the decade, communism collapse, and the decade was then politically described as a "movement toward the right wing". the 1990's also saw a huge advancement in technology with the "world wide web" and the first gene therapy being put in trial on the first designer baby.

Bill clinton was a dominant figure in the international affairs in the 1990's. He was known for his attempt to negotiate peace in the middle east. His endorsement advanced free trade in the united states.

Overall the 1990 was an era of change where people started discovering new ways of having fun and were evolving.

  1. Great post. I liked your quick, three sentence summary of Bill Clinton. Also this was the first post where I saw the phrase "movement toward the right wing". Stellar Work.

  2. Great overview of the 90s. I think you could have also included information ont he police brutality that also took place during that time. And how even with all the advances during the 90s it wasn't perfect.

  3. This is a good representation of what the 1990's is in a nutshell. Perhaps you should have connected how Bill Clinton used technology to increase his political strength, you know, with his war room synthesizing information in real time. It would be interesting to know who were the advocates for these developments in social entertainment and how they managed to overcome the conservative criticism that come with any effort in creating new ideas. Overall, I do strongly believe that the 1990's were an era of change as, just as you said, times were evolving and cultures were changing.

  4. I like how you summarized the effects of the 90s at the end. I also found it interesting how you noticed how mny new cultures had arisen out of the 90s. All of those cultures, grunge, rave, and hip hop, have all grown to be more and are still existant to this day, and I think its cool to see how each of these cultures has expanded to a larger audience and have branched off to create even more new cultures.
